BTBA PRESS RELEASE – July 2018 STRING MACHINE v FREE FALL AVERAGES

Following a number of recent announcements regarding the installation of String machines in the UK, the Executive Council of the BTBA have decided, after extensive research and discussions with other international associations and manufacturers, to embrace this new initiative and bring String lane certification in line with Free Fall under one roof. BTBA members will have the opportunity of competing in tournaments on both String and Free Fall.

With over 20% of all lanes in the UK by the end of 2019 becoming String, we will now adopt the averages from either Free Fall or String for all handicap tournaments as from 1st August 2018.

Whilst we recognise that this step forward will not be readily accepted by everyone, it is something that the BTBA as an association cannot ignore, as the introduction of String machines is only going to increase Worldwide over the coming years.
