Following on from last year’s Team England trials, it’s time to announce the future qualification process for Team England.
We want to ensure that Team England squads are selected and best prepared for the challenging conditions at international Championships. Therefore, qualifying will be played at multiple centres, on multiple patterns, and over a longer period (rather than single qualification events), whilst minimizing the cost of holding additional events. Squads will also be formed earlier in the year to give more time for training sessions and preparations for the following year’s Championships and events.
Going forward we will be using events that are ran by the BTBA and the ESBT (English Sport Bowling Tour) to create a rankings table to determine the qualifying players for the Team England squads, as follows:

Adults will be required to compete in 5 of the above events by 31st July 2022 which must include the BTBA Nationals. You can enter as many tournaments as you wish, however your top 5 events from the above will be used for your qualifying to Team England.
Highest ranked Adult will get 20 Points per event, dropping down to 1 point for 20th placed Adult in each event, if there are that many entered. BTBA Nationals will be based on the All-Events. (Example: If 10 Adults enter, points will go from 20 to 11 etc).

Senior Team England qualification is open to all “eligible seniors”—those turning 50 in 2023.
Eligible seniors will be required to compete in 4 of the above events by 31st July 2022 which must include the BTBA Senior Nationals. You can enter as many tournaments as you wish, however your top 4 events from the above will be used for your qualifying to Senior Team England.

Squad Selection
In each age group, the top 10 (and any tied) players based on their points scores will qualify for a place in the Team England squad for the following 2 years (up until 31st July 2024), joining the already qualified players from the previous year’s trials. If any existing squad player from last year’s trials re-qualifies, they will also be extended in line with 31st July 2024.
Everyone in the squad will then be invited to training sessions and the possibility of other tournaments as a Team England group which will be used as part of the selection process for the Championship teams. Wildcards spots are also available for players playing in PBA, PWBA and other international events.
