The final event of the 2026 Qubica Senior Summer Series was another battle of the cuts style tournament down at the Scareport – but this tournament was played in teams of DOUBLES !
It was something I wanted to try out this year, having some a couple of team style tournaments – we’ve had a trios and now a doubles.
Format is old skool – first round of 6 games, cut the top 12 teams who bowled two more games, cut to the top 6 who would 3 more games… scores carried forward. The team who knocked over the most skittles won !
Pattern – last time we played at the Scareport, I went too tough ! and some of the bowlers who played in that event are still in therapy. So, this time around I wanted to go a little easier, but still be in the “challenge” pattern bracket. So I went right down the middle with MIDDLE OF THE ROAD V2 pattern.
Lets get into it.
Round 1
In the am squad the early leaders were the sneaky later entry team Tuckers Luck – Charlton Tucker and Rob Yandell. They set the pace on +95. Also over in the first squad were RBS No Slop – Rob Bruce and Steve big D Thornton on +78. In fact going by the scores in the first squad, I was predicting the cut to be around 25pins over.
The 2nd squad hit the lanes and to be honest the high scores never really came. There was change at the top with Thorn in my Side – Steve Thornton and Gordon Humphries shooting +123. Into 2nd were Kane-O & Wayne-O – Kane Bennett and his mate Wayne Stevens on +120 then came Tuckers Luck from the earlier squad.
The cut to the top 12 came in at -37 which was Foxy Basher – Basher Bonfield dragging along a weary Darren Fox.

Home Pro RBS pro Shop operator Rob Bruce was top on 1303 a 217 average. In 2nd was Basher on 1299 and in 3rd was Alan McCully on 1286.

Round 2
The 12 remaining teams would play 2 more games. The lanes were freshly dressed… and just like the last tournament at the Scareport, it seemed the pattern played harder. With every re-dress the scoring pace gets lower and lower. Tuckers Luck took over at the top, with Thorn in my Side. In third making a charge through the field were Gayes Pride – Gaye and Alan McCully. The cut to the top 6 was Force It In – Laura Fawcett and Richard Parker with a score of 3235 +35 with handicap.
Round 3
3 games in this round. I wanted 3 games in the final round as I wanted teams to feel they all had a chance to catch up to the leaders. Thorn in my Side looked good for the title with Tuckers Luck lurking… Thornton and Humphries had a less then average last game, which meant that Tuckers luck just needed to have a solid game to take the title, which they delivered and they were the champions by 20 pins. In 3rd remaining Gayes Pride.
So congratulations to Charlton Tucker and Rob Yandell on their title. As well as the £550 prize money they also both won a Qubica AMF exclusive striking shirt !
