Mixed Trios was a tournament bought about to try and get more women out playing tour tournaments and we had 23 ladies supporting this event. Hopefully those that bowled enjoyed the experience and will want to play more BTBA tour events.
I honestly believe there are lots more people who love to bowl in these team events, but these days people want to be asked. However there aren’t many people who are prepared to do the organising and the asking. I’m guilty of it myself sometimes.
The pattern was supposed to ’24 Mike Aulby, which is 39ft and at the bottom end of the “challenge pattern” range. It played hard… really hard. I played on Saturday and I can tell you that Saturday was no cakewalk either. But on the balance perhaps the Saturday saw the better scoring.
So lets get into it.
Scratch Team Section.
Robbo’s Pro Shop, represented by Phil and Becca Manning and Joe Crook opened up with a 744 team game and then a 678 and them two games set them up to coast home for the win. 230 pins behind Robbo’s pro shop was the Splatt Attack, the only team with the Two girls 1 bloke combo – Jo Marshall, Natalie Boot, and Nathan Burrows. And in 3rd was LHJ – Lorna Scott, Hayden Richardson and James McMinn… I’m particularly annoyed about this as I lined James up after he had two 150’s. He then started shooting 200’s… the annoying thing being that they then beat my team into 3rd by 11 pins.
Handicap Team Section
76 pins separating the top 3 teams. In 3rd was the “me and the reds” team of Richard Tack, Anna Brown and Martin Kirk. In 2nd was Champion Masters – Simon and Austin Taylor and Ruby Collins. A particularly good performance from Junior Ruby who saw her put her best 3 game block together. And winners were the Pix & Mix team of Tanya Lee-Rowland, Vaughan Rowland and my very old friend Jamie O’Dwyer. On a personal level I’m very happy for Jamie. He’s had some problems on the lanes last couple of years, he kinda had the “yips” but he bowled great in this event and showed there’s still some wag in the old dogs tail.
Scratch Individual Series.
In the men, there were only 7 bowlers who managed to break a 200 average. The tournament average was 181. In third place on 1304 was Joe Crook, with team mate Phil Manning in 2nd on 1318, but winning maximum rankings points for a 3rd tournament in a row was Tom Langley who shot 1321 a 220 average.
In the ladies the tournament average was 171, In third on 1133 was Becca Manning and in 2nd was junior Ruby Collins on 1218 but taking home maximum points was Jo Marshall who finished with a score of 1248 a 208 average.
